Meetup in the Mountains 2019! Oct 17-20

Just a note of intent for this venerable Meetup. @HansenCTX and I are in initial planning stages of what and where for this Fall and the Eastern US Meetup. The only thing we are fairly positive of at this time is the date. October 17-20th. Chris, as many of you know, has a very busy schedule with his Teaching career however because this event is so important to him he's already been able to carve out these dates. As all of our luck would have it - these dates are absolutely perfect for the mountains in the area.

Right now we are open to some ideas and absolutely appreciate those willing to step up and volunteer for helping with organizing the event. I know it's early but start following now to get completely psyched up for this great annual gathering. Last year was my first and I had a great time with great rides and CTX fellowship. Check out the threads and pictures for last years event to get an idea of the largest gathering of CTX's to date and see for yourself just how much fun we all had.

Hmmm - time frame is about right... know the bike is up for another extended run...

Keep us posted. And include base camp location as soon as you are sure.

Hey everyone!!!

Thanks bljbd for getting this thread started. Yes, Oct. 17th - 20th are the dates. Wednesday the 17th and Sunday the 20th might be travel days for most folks. With that said, the majority of group rides and activities will be on the 18th and 19th.

I reached out to Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge about these dates and this is what they said regarding their available lodging; "Hi, We have lots of camping and several bunkhouse beds available that weekend. We do not have many rooms left due to the groups that will be here at that time." I am considering returning to the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground (BRMC) on HWY 276, just outside of Maggie Valley NC. This place is centrally located in the NC Mountains, have access to all the fun roads in both Western NC and Upstate SC (including the Blue Ridge Parkway). It will also allow for us to explore roads/routes we did not do last year. I will reach out to the owner of the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground to see if their cabins are still available. I live close to both locations and I am familiar with many of the roads. However, I live closer to the BRMC and know all the roads/routes in that area more.

Here is the websites for the BRMC: Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground

Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge: https://ironhorsenc.com/

Both locations are top notch!! They are both located in primary riding locations and offer good food for breakfast and dinner.

Summer is just now starting and my time to plan the event is increasing! I am headed to the BMW MOA rally in Lebanon TN next week. I am also still planning to visit our CTX meetup in Hancock MD in July (although I have not made any reservations yet).

More to come!!!

I would be partial to Blue Ridge M/C campground. Iron Horse has plans to expand its facility for motorhomes and r/v's and facilities for weddings and banquets. Don't know when all this is going to happen but it seems that all the emphasis will not be on motorcycles as it has been. Got this info from the new owners rep at their vender booth at Daytona Bike Week .

I met the same rep at the BMW MOA rally this week. I asked a lot of questions. It seems you are right, Ironhorse is making some changes. They are going to continue to be motorcycle focused, however; they are now owned by a major corporation and making money is the new plan.
