CTX engineer talk articles

Didn't see this page on World Honda web site earlier. Lots of great info on why and how things were done to result in the way the CTX1300 is as we have it now. Interesting that the battery is where it is to help offset that the engine was moved over the other way to compensate for the wider rear tire! Just as an example.

Back on TOPIC.

I enjoyed that discussion, particularly the details of the aerodynamics. Fun to read such engineering details about an object you actually own and thoroughly enjoy.

Now if they'd only explain how to turn on the cruise control....

You Know after reading this, it reminds me of the HD V-rod, harley wanted to upgrade their 100 year old design but the public wouldn't accept it.........Come on people the CTX is a cool bike!! Go out and buy them so they won't die......

If dealers had understood these reports perhaps they would have sold better. My dealer was sure it was the replacement for the ST1300, which it is not. I guess I was fortunate enough to know a ittle about motorcycles before test riding the CTX. I guess I sold it to myself. Having owned goldwings and ridden many STs, I was immediately impressed with the handling and the low speed abilities of this motorcycle. If Honda does not take time to train there dealers they are missing a great opportunity with this motorcycle.

Original Price point Of the CTX was too high. It is a $12-14,000 bike.

1967 160 Honda Dream (Army ride, rode all over Alabama)
1973 Kawasaki 175 F7 (Motocross and etc)
1973 Honda 350 (fast but heavy)
1992 Harley Sportster 1200 (rocket ship but did not handle)
1994 Harley Dresser (loved that bike)
2007 Burgman 650 (gone but not forgotten)
2011 Burgman 650 Exec (will never sell)
2014 CTX1300 Deluxe (New Best Friend) "Big Blue"

That's Honda. Anyway, much easier for them to drop the price if it's too high than raise it if it's too low. And on the off chance they stumble on a hit right out of the box and sell a bunch at original MSRP, it's that much more profit and quicker they recoup their R&D costs. You might not think there was much of that with so much of the drive train being sourced from the ST, until you start peeking under the plastic and see how much new engineering is wrapped around the old go-parts.

Hey, I bought pretty much sight unseen before they were even on showroom floors, which means almost original sticker, and I have no problem with it, as it's turned out to be even better for me than I had hoped. It was worth it to me (and a few others who didn't want to wait), so it wasn't priced that far off the mark.
