Honda CTX1300 Review by USA Today



For those interested, although they're late to the game, USA Today did a review on our CTX's. Not as great of a review as you'd find from some of the popular motorcycle publications but have a look anyway:

Me too, although it may not be the best review out there, I find that it's good to read a wide range of them as usually you get different tidbits of information to store in your arsenal

Overall it's a good review. They only gripe about some fairly minor things that most people I know tend to change anyway - windshield, rear rack, handlebars, side cases. Rarely do I read a reviewer say something about aftermarket solutions which in a lot of cases make more sense and work better than OEM add ons. CeeBaileys makes side case bags, problem solved. Givi, Shad or? top case, helmet storage solved, Honda (mentioned) or other aftermarket windshield, weather protection solved. Handlebars, that may be a bit trickier I admit.
I'm looking forward to a demo ride in a couple of weeks. Im trying to decide between the CTX and F6B... I'm leaning towards the CTX as a better all around motorcycle.

I was between the two a bit also. My thoughts were with the F6B you basically have the same size bike as a gold wing but you don't get all the features where as you can get the CTX with pretty much the same features (especially a Canadian model) but it's cheaper, much more nimble, and I have always preferred the V4's. My opinion anyways.

That's exactly where I was last year. When I went to test ride (and buy) my CTX they had a red F6B leftover from 2013 out in front reduced to like $15K. One sales guy was amazed I was still considering the (then) more expensive CTX deluxe with that F6B sitting right next to it. I sat on the F6B. Felt heavy and big. Controls in the fairing seemed old-fashioned. Bags were nice and large, but no top case option. Seemed in every way like a compromise over what I wanted out of the CTX.

Seems to me like Honda is perhaps butting up against the fact that they should make the luggage and fairing options for the Gold Wing family more modular, and maybe look to DROP some weight.

Here is the comment in the article to which i am referring.
The handlebars need to be less stylish and less curved. You can keep your hands on the grips, but wrists are uncomfortably bent. A straighter bar – at least by an inch or two – would be easier on the wrists and improve the feel of control.
I have a bit of arthritis in my wrists and wants to move from St1300 to ctx1300 for this reason

I haven't experienced any wrist pain, or any other type of pain while riding my CTX.

Take a look in the Appearance & Body forum in the Tech section on this board. You'll find this issue mentioned THERE. I still feel some riders try to hold the grips like a baseball bat... or like they're riding a bike with narrow bars like many bobbers. This is not that kind of bike and needs to be managed differently than that kind, including how to hold the grips. My wrists are straight with my arm, but intentionally not straight to the grips, and I have no issues with this but there are others here who seem to.
