I've got 18,619 miles currently on the bike. Going on RFTW (Run For the Wall) in May. Should I change the final drive oil now or after I get back from RFTW? Regarding the shocks, still riding with the OEMs.
Changing final drive oil is very simple, assuming is the original oil since new I would change it for sure before RFTW.
You need "Hypoid gear oil SAE 80W90"
About the OEM rear shocks, after 20,000 miles on Colorado roads, the uncontrolled rebound and sagging become a problem, even putting the bike on the center stand became harder. It was more obvious after I purchase the GL.
I was planning to get the Progressive 430 (air) until I found a deal on the 444 (oil). The oil version is considered superior ...
There are several versions: 11.5" and 12", standard and heavy duty.
I pick up the 12" standard as I wanted more clearance and I ride solo. Heavy duty is for 2-up.
The increase in seat height is minimal, now the CTX and GL have the same seat height
I think the reason using the center stand become more difficult is relate with the OEM shocks losing rebound control (resistance to be extended).
You pull the bike up and instead of rising the bike , you just extend the suspension...
My suggestion is to keep an eye on the prices and waiting for a good deal.
