Just got back from a visit with the kids at College Station (Texas A&M) this weekend, and was just thinking about what an awesome bike this CTX1300 is!
I bought my blue Deluxe in April of 2018 with 8,844 miles on it. In the (just under) year I’ve had it, I have put 14,295 miles on it (shows 23,139 now). Still can’t hardly believe how this bike performs. Next-to-zero maintenance required. After all, it IS a Honda! Have added a few blingy things, but only requirements so far have been an air filter and a new rear tire. The air filter looked fine, but had been through over 16K miles. Figured it was time. And both tires were new when I bought it. Oh, and a flush and fill in clutch, brakes, and rear gear fluids. Other than that - zip, zero, nada on parts, etc.
For the A&M trip yesterday, just checked the air pressures in the tires, looked at the engine oil sight glass (first time in a while
), and gave the bike a quick wash and a once-over look to make sure nothing was amiss. Then, threw a leg over and left. On the way up, made the trip (365 miles) on one stop, 5 hrs 50 mins. This morning, made the return trip on one stop (gas only - never even unstradled the bike!) in 5 hrs 11 minutes. If I keep it around 73-78mph, it’ll go 200 miles on a tank. Yet still be happy running 80-85mph into a 10mph wind and not get you blown all over the place. And even at that speed, still went 161.3 miles on fuel (light came on at 157).
This bike checks more boxes off for me than I ever thought one bike would. It’s rare. It’s sleek. It’s got those drop-dead-gorgeous quad chrome pipes. It runs like a jackrabbit down the highway. It’s no slouch in the twisties. And, best of all - it looks darned good in my garage!!!
Oh, don’t get me wrong. It ain’t perfect. I still try in vain to make the gap go away near the two front pockets (broken tab). And it is a bit heavy putting on the center stand. And I really wish it had a more ‘normal’ exhaust routing to facilitate and easy change in it’s tone. But this is all minor crap. Only thing that worries me now is trying to decide whether to keep this bike a good while, or see if I can find another new or nearly-new CTX1300 to take its place! Ah, decisions, decisions ...
