Air filter info

Hey, so I know this has been discussed in the past, but it was suggested I start a new thread because it's been a while. So, armed with that wonderful PDF that Glen Chapman added, and the decision made I was going to do this myself, I went looking for an air filter. I'll spare you all the detail about what's OEM, what's available, etc. I found I could easily acquire a K&N for ~$65. Ditto for the Honda OEM, if you could actually find one. However, the Emgo air filter is available thru several sources, I have Amazon Prime so I ordered there, $26.05 before tax! Meets OEM specs, might not have quite the volumetric efficiency of a K&N, but it's almost $40 less! Here's the LINK if you're interested...

Hey Scott, long time no hear. Glad you got your new filter in and ready to go. I am going to change my filter in 4000 miles and may need options if I cant find the OEM. And as the CTX now has a new stable mate (a Guzzi Mandello) that is getting most of my riding attention, it may take awhile to put 4000 miles on the CTX.

Hi Sterling! It's nice to be back on the forum. I took a look at that Guzzi Mandello, what a sweet machine! Reminded me that, back in the day (early 80's) I really lusted for a Honda CX650 Turbo. Anyhow, in regards to your comment about the air filter, I was impressed by the quality of the Emgo filter I went with. Was copiously glued to the metal top and ring bottom, and fit perfectly into place on the CTX. I bought the ST1300 model, so marked and drilled the necessary holes for the mounting screws. The foam rubber at the ring is well-made and oil impregnated like the Honda OEM. They say it "meets or exceeds OEM specs" so I took them at their word.

Nice thought! I would surely like to (every year I think about it) but just too much time. Only 2240 miles from my house so 3 days to get there, but I couldn't maintain the same miles rate on the return. It would suck the fun out of the trip. I would need a full 2 weeks, and I start missing my wife well before that. I will be in Charleston SC labor day weekend...shame it wasnt a couple weeks later as I would have found a way to stop by Stecoah (w/o the CTX!).
Have fun!

Oops, I mean Stirling, not Sterling. I'll quit screwing that up eventually...
