For anyone with a luggage rack and passenger backrest -- I'm working with a local leather shop to stitch up a custom-fit leather tool bag to sit on the luggage rack and strap to the backrest post. I have no pictures yet, because we literally just started working on this. But the size I'm thinking about is 11" long (10" internal) and about 5 - 5 1/2" high. The side profile would be kind of a rounded trapezoid -- 5" deep on the bottom narrowing to 4" deep on top -- with a flattened bottom so it will sit firmly on the luggage rack and fit snuggly against the back of the backrest. A 1" wide securing strap would be set low on the bag to go under the backrest and around the mounting post.

They won't have the first one for me until the end of September, but I'm hoping they can shoot me some pics of other bags they've done similar to what I'm looking for; if they do, I'll post them here.

In the mean time, here's one of my older bags that I'm hoping they can use as kind of a model for what I want using the dimensions above. (I love this little bag, and I've been heartbroken that I haven't been able to use it on any bike I've had since the VTX1800.)

Let me know if anyone's interested -- I'm hoping if I can get them a few more orders I might be able to work with them on the price.

Tool bag arrived! (Warning -- picture-heavy!)

Pics of the bag from all sides, and then a few more strapped onto the bike. It will easily hold my tool wrap and a few other small items, like a spare pair of gloves, glasses, who knows what else. There are three straps total -- two on the bottom and one in the front that goes around the backrest post -- and they old it very secure. The leather work is thick and sturdy -- I expect this bag will last a good long time.

Maybe a little steep for at $150, but after extensive searching I couldn't find anything else that would fit on this arrangement. I'm very happy with it.

If anyone else is interested, the couple that did the work are Ryu and Kim Ichikawa, and they can be reached at [email protected].
