Can't Release Seat, Help!

324 Views 11 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  VegasRider
Need to see if anybody may have a good solution (without taking apart every panel, of course). Mu bike came with a Corbin seat, which I love, but, it's always been hard to remove. The key turns but doesn't seem to move the cable far enough to release the bracket cleanly and be able to lift the seat. I managed before but now, it's a point where no matter how much I try, it won't release. As I said, the key turns fully but I guess it's not enough for the cable to open the latch.

Any ideas as to how I can get either to the cable of latch/mechanism area and somehow open it?

Thanks!

Corbin seats have always been a problem releasing from the latch. Corbin makes the latch loop to be too tight.

Some have found that hitting on the center of the passenger seat hard while turning the key to release seemed to help. If not, then have someone else sit down on it, or bounce on it, while attempting to unlatch and then get up while still holding the latch open.

Once the seat is off maybe add a washer or two under the seat latch loop on the bolts.

Yeah, tried hitting it like that, pried with a screwdriver on both sides and nothing. Ill have somebody jump on it while the key is turned and see if it budges. Thanks,
@VegasRider - did you get the seat removed? Had the same issue, the seat release side of the lock broke. I couldn't remove the necessary panels because the seat covered the fasteners. Wound up cutting my Corbin to get the seat off.

Push down in area of catch before turning key so it doesn't put as much stress on things. Then pull up once key is turned
I have difficulty removing my standard seat on the CTX (not the Corbin I referred to earlier which was on a HD) IF I don't both push the seat back and then lift up. There can be just enough misadjustment that the latch is being pulled out but not quite out of the way of the retainer for pulling up. You might already being doing this but if not, give it a try. Good luck!!
The stock seat has no issues, just the Corbin. The original seat release was broken at the key itself. With everything removed I could manually release the seat with my hand but the key would not work. The fuel door was never an issue. Replaced the fuel/seat release assembly and it has been fine ever since, been using the stock seat since the Corbin has a hole...

Yes, got the seat off. Basically I was able to pull the side panel out slightly to get to the lock and pull this metal holder that keeps it in place. I disconnected the release cable from it and pulled the cable by hand. That allowed the catch to pull far enough to release the seat. The lock for the seat release was broken though so ordered a new one. (The fuel release is fine). After that, I installed the air shocks, but removed the seat locking mechanism for now.
^^^ wish I'd thought of that! My lock assembly failed too- and ONLY for the seat release, the fuel release was fine. Did you notice how large the bolt heads are where the seat hardware attaches to the Corbin? I think that may be a contributing factor to this problem?
That's a good point. When I get the new lock, I plan to use screws with smaller heads and maybe even file off the seat catch to make it a little slimmer. Corbin should know about this issue and use proper hardware. It's really not rocket science but it sure it's a pain for us to deal with it and try to get it right.
