CTX1300 leg room

A friend on another forum went to the NY motorcycle show and sat on a CTX1300. I asked how the leg room was since I am 6'5" and 35" inseam.
Here is his reply. I thought the comment on Speakers was interesting.

recumbentbob,
I am 5'11 and I thought there was enough leg room for me. I wasn't stretched out but I was not cramped. I don't know if the bike will be long enough for you. The f6 was much better and for an additional $2,000 I would get it. Which model did you order. The basic one was going for 16K and the ABS model was 17K and it also came with a radio. The base model has speakers but no radio. The dealer said that Honda made the fairing with the speakers and did not want have two holes in the fairing where the speakers were to be placed. So speakers and no radio. Go figure.

#1, I like what I'm hearing about the pricing.

#2, the leg room sounds like it will work just fine for me, but somebody your size could well be knocking knees on tupperware. Hope that's not the case.

i have an ultimate king on my goldwing...love it...
The CTX looks like a pretty big bike, I'm surprised that you wouldn't fit on it. I am 6'2" so i am wondering where the height cut off is for the bike. I mean 6'5" is really really tall...

The problem isn't the size of the bike, the problem is the bike was designed to comfortably seat a guy thats 5 ft 8 inch. Anyone larger or with longer legs, has to suck an egg I guess. They want to brag about a low seat height, and to do this, they position the seat as far forward as possible, (to clear the rear wheel area). That allows them to brag about a "low seat height" but what it does to long legged riders is shove their knees into the cylinder heads. I am 6 ft 3 inch tall with a 34+ inseam, and no I am sure I won't fit this bike either. Too bad, I really like the look of it. It would be a welcome change to see options for longer legs on these big Cruisers, like adjustable seats (BMW) and or optional seats, which allow a tall rider to sit back further and open up that knee angle.

Actually they moved the seat back to clear the engine, at least it's back a lot farther than on the ST1300, and then also moved the rear wheel back making the wheelbase longer so the seat is lowered somewhat between the motor and rear wheel rather than on top of both like the ST1300. That doesn't help the problem with a long inseam pushing the knees into the back of the cylinder heads. I think that colored patch on the rear of the heads is a thermal patch. Don't remember seeing that on the ST engine. You will just have to sit on one to know for sure.
Reply to Bob:
Yes, you are correct, I need to sit on this bike and find out for sure how it fits. Although, looking at the photos of the average sized rider, it would appear that I am going to have an issue with knees on cylinder heads. Find out soon.
I'm really liking this bike. I ride a Stelvio NTX and love it, however, it is a little high for my 30in inseam. I have no problem riding it but I find that I spend a lot of time worrying about foot placement so I don't fall over.

I had a Nomad 1500 that I bought new and sold for a concours before the Stelvio because I mainly was tired of the foot forward riding position.

My local dealer had a '13 F6b new for sale a few weeks ago for $14k and it caught my eye and made me look at Honda's new offerings. I sat on it and I liked the foot placement. I like the mid-mount placement of the foot pegs on the F6b.

For those of you who have sat on the ctx1300, how is the foot placement? Is it similar to the goldwing/F6b or are the feet more forward like a cruiser? How do they compare?

Thanks!
Mike

Welcome to the board Mike!

You won't find any argument here about liking the bike. Anxiously waiting for March when they are scheduled to show up in dealers.
Hi Mike, welcome aboard!

Only one or two members here so far (that I'm aware of, anyway) have actually sat on a CTX1300. As I recall, they said the foot position was slightly farther forward than a Gold Wing, but nothing like the way-forward position of most cruisers. Hopefully someone who's sat on one will drop in. ;)
