Front fork tubes banged up

382 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Gregory Tubbs
So, took my bike to the local Honda mechanic/dealership as I needed new fork seals, or so I thought.
they just called and said the fork tubes are pretty banged up, and the fork seals will quite possibly leak again with the new seals.
New tubes are $450 each + labor.
My question, for what will be over $1000, should I just look into new shocks, and if so, are there any suggestions?

You could try Traxxion Dynamics but I think it's $$$$

I've also seen the names Hyperpro and Adreani pop up on the forum.
1st, how did your tubes get banged up? 2nd, if I had to change the tubes, I'd look into something else because the price looks high whichever way you go.

good question, as I can't see any pitting or flaws, but they said it was inside part of the tubes.
possibly sand or salt as it came from Florida, assuming near the cocoa beach.
I had them put the seals on as is, so far, all is well. Seals, new pads, and figured I'd have the oil changed as it's hard for me without a driveway or garage to do it (I am capable) was $884...phew....Seals alone was $600. New tubs without labor would be over $1000, so would have to consider other options.
as of now, just keeping fingers crossed, and will attempt to find another stealership if I need work done.
My old mechanic is a Harley guy and doesn't want to deal with the plastics....

Did you get to see the “banged up” tubes? You would think they could at least show you what they are talking about. Just my opinion. But I’d just go with what you’ve done and see what shakes out. Chances are you’ll get good miles out of it before anything leaks again. It is a gamble but I’d have done the same thing you did. Stay safe.

I'd want to see them and find out what they mean by banged up too. Since they're inverted forks, I don't see how salt water damage is possible.
I'm more inclined to think it was "banged up" by a rookie changing the seals.
