For those that may remember me - I was just browsing for a photo of my CTX1300 to post on a Facebook Page 'Over 60 and back on a bike'. It was in response to someone who'd posted a photo of his bike loaded up for a camping trip to Wales.
Reminded me of how I used to load the CTX for going camping over to Belgium from the UK.
I'll be doing it 17 June for the first time on the Harley Sportster (XL1200T). I've been camping with the Harley, as below, so I think it'll be fine.

Hope you are all keeping well. But yes, I do miss my CTX but as you know the ONLY reason I changed it was the weight when pushing it around. As for the Sportster, I have to admit I do like it a lot (but not LOVE it like I did the CTX!!).
Oh, nearly forgot, I did Route66 in April 2022 - Chicago to Santa Manica, via a detour to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas NV (also visited the Las Vegas NM too!).
Keep the Shiny Side up y'all.

And just for a laugh you might like this bit of video of me falling on a very wet, very slippy, showground!!

David, right? I couldnt get the video to play, but I remember from when you posted previously. Even remember a 2CV causing the drop!! Looks like all is well with you being out and about on 2 wheels enjoying some camping. Good to hear from you.

@djrose007 , Hey there David! I did get the video to play when I clicked on the "Watch on YouTube" link. Age restricted eh?
I guess we all like to lighten the load as we get older. Some sooner and some later on.

I've dropped my CTX in the front yard for the same reasons. But I was lucky not to have any witnesses or video evidence. 😉

Hi Stirling, good to hear from you. The video should play if you click on 'Watch on YouTube'. It says it's age related, maybe you've got to be over 70! HAHAHAHAHAHA, probably because of the bad language!!
Yes, still enjoying life on two wheels but thinking about going back to Honda. The only reason would be that when I visit the Harley dealership, in Cheltenham, no-one acknowledges you, no 'Hi, need any help', 'Want a coffee while you are here', nothing! Just think they are miserable buggers. When we visited a dealership in the states they were all over us like we were royalty!

Yeah, I'm beginning to realise it's not just me. I've joined a Facebook group called 'Over 60 and back on a bike', at first I thought it was a pre-requisite to have a Royal Enfield! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
A few of them have mentioned changing their bikes because of the weight. That's life I guess, still biking is the main thing.
Thanks for getting back to me, and the age restriction is probably because of my bad language!

😄😄😄😄 Most of my drops were on the drive (front yard) without witnesses too and one bonus was that I got absolutely expert at picking it up!!
Also, luckily, I had fitted Charlie's rear bars which protected the panniers.
I was at a Bike Evening at the Honda Dealers a month after exchanging it and found someone looking at it in the showroom. I spoke to him about what a fabulous bike it was. A few weeks later one of the sales guys told me he'd bought it just after speaking to me. I haven't see it on the road so don't know where the guy was from.

Charlie's guards have saved me too. Especially when a car tried to share my lane and we sideswiped each other. It bent the guard but saved the bag.

I've seen some stories in the states about the same attitude about Harley dealers. It's basically the owners or employees that are the problem, not Harley in general.
One dealership had gotten so bad the entire sales staff was fired.

Yeah, I'm sure that if you went to Harley in Milwaukee they'd be greeting us like long lost brothers, and I found the dealerships that we visited were very welcoming and friendly. Got the T Shirts from Halls of Springfield Ill, Chucks in Albuquerque NM and Bartels in LA California.
Cheltenham dealership isn't doing themselves any favours, unless you are wearing a Rolling Hills HOG Chapter cut, I noticed they were all huddled with the staff laughing and drinking coffee!!

HAHAHAHAHA, no, although I'm sure it would, it's a 1200cc model with the larger tank.
I did the R66 trip on an Eagle Rider hired bike, Softail Heritage Classic.

well that makes a bit more sense. the heritage is a good choice for long distance riding. while the sporty is a gr8 bike[i've had 2], my butt hurt just thinking of doing a long ride like that. have to AT LEAST change the seat out.well, tht is the harley tax,or at least part of it.

I know what you mean, but I did take my Airhawk Comfort Seat with me, it's brilliant and even saw me through an Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000 miles in 24 hours!!!! (That, by the way, was on the CTX1300 which is pretty comfortable anyway) 😄

My thoughts too, but I wasn't goin to say Nothin! 🫢

I think I probably deserved it but didn't think to ask. Wonder what their response would have been!!
I have decided that I'm never going to part exchange again. If I want to change the bike I'll sell it privately even if it means a couple of weeks without a bike.
