Honda pricing

I owned a honda , in the late 80's ,It was a big old ex police bike high mileage , 750 k7 i think it was , did'nt have it long it was a cheap bike to buy until i could afford the one i really wanted , that was a 750 honda v 45 honda sabre , the bike was very nice to ride , but a pig for reliability , always breaking down , my next honda was a cruiser 750 ace i bought new in 98 i think it was , i kept it for 18 months and moved it on , Not a bad bike , had no trouble with it .

Other than that i've never really been a honda fan , owned every other sort of bike , kwakas , suzukis , triumphs harleys .

But the first Honda i've seen that done anything for me has been this CTX , , I've put elswhere about the trouble i've had finding one , then when i found one after repetedly asking about the availability of the backrest and luggage rack , and i'me still waiting for the answer , seems they cannot even be bothered to find out , i yesterday rang interstate , .

I told the guy what i told the local salesman the bike is NO GOOD to me unless i have these parts , simply because , the boss will not get on a bike without something to stop her falling off , and i need a luggage rack for my bag , because the boss takes up 2 panniers and half my bag when we travel . . So he says i'll ring you back

He rings me back , and first thing he says is how keen are you , keen i say , , but i did say the only thing about honda that worries me , is they have a tendency to put bikes out at a very high price and drop THOUSANDS not hundreds but THOUSANDS of the price when they cannot sell ,

Naaw rubbish he says , Ok i say I don't want to argue , but how about last year , the ST 1300 dropped from 23 grand to 17 grand to clear them , what about the new vfr came out at 24 grand now selling for 18 grand , what about the goldwing dropped from 39 thousand DOLLARS TO 29 THOUSAND dollars , and left a lot with sour tastes in there mouths , I said look thats a worry but not a deal breaker , its a new model , i want one so i'm willing to pay a premium , .

So based on the fact i tell him the price does'nt bother me , coming interstate with a fly and ride , is more appealing to me than off putting , , so whats the availability of the parts ,

2-3 weeks he says , , Ok were cooking with gas , its all looking good , so he says he needs a deposit on the bike before he can order anything ,

Ok no worries i say , BUT and theres always a BUT , I tell him , he has to fax me a contract , i'll give him a deposit no worries , but on the contract i want it put in BIG BOLD LETTERS in no uncertaim terms , that if the parts do not arrive ,and are put on the bike within ,4 weeks , then the deal is off , and i recieive a FULL refund OF MY DEPOSIT .

He suggests thats unreasonable , i say no its good buisness , after all you want a deposit and i don't want the bike without the parts , what if they don't come what if they decide not to sell them in Aust ,

The wife then interjects, and says to me , stop messing around just buy it , winters coming on , i won't be going anywhere till after winter anyway , and thats plenty of time .

So i think , well there not prepared to discount the bike in any way , they hav'nt sold one , and from what salesman are telling me they don't seem to get many enquiries for this bike , and are getting more negative than positive responses , so i suggest , ok if i put down a deposit , fly over in 4 weeks , pick it all up and ride away happy , its all cool , BUT if the parts are not there , i still pick up the bike they send me the parts when they come , but at 50% price reduction , and put it in the contract .
Ok we will do it , he says but you will have to trust me , because we are not allowed to put it in the contract , By now i'm getting real suss on these parts ,

I then ask , anyway you hav'nt told me the price of them , Oh there competetive he says with other brands , yeh but how much i say ,

He then tells me

Backrest ---- $595

Pad ------- $197

Luggage rack $386

Fitting ----$360 A grand total of $1538 For a friggin backreat and rack ,

End result ,,, Honda can stick this bike up there ass .

Sorry to hear about that, coneye. It's a shame that dealers aren't willing to work more with customers, especially customers ready to buy. Maybe by spring time down there all the parts you need will be readily available and some dealer closer to you will be willing to talk seriously.

For what it's worth, I've owned all Honda's except for the Thunderbird, and aside from electrical gremlins in a VFR800, I've had great luck with all of them.
Sounds like that salesguy really is in the dark. The backrest is not two parts backrest and pad are one part. One of the posts here listed a Japan motorcycle parts place online that has these parts on hand and for a LOT less than you were quoted... shipping included I would guess. (don't remember what post but it can be searched for).
Certainly does'nt go down well , you would think that the fact i rang up my other side of town dealer , and popped over there twice would of told him he has a customer on his hands ,
But the most annoying thing was i drove 80klm with my wife to look , that alone should of told him i was hooked , to be told i don't know the availability , i've not had time to look (3 days , not sufficient ) .
But if you can hang on i'll get the manager (his boss ) to look it up . Then 40 miuites later , i have to ask is the manager looking or shall i come back .

Then told , looks like someone else has come in he's with them , i'll ring you , and like i said 4 days later still waiting .

At least the interstate guy did look , his reculance to give me a good deal over the phone is to an extent understandable ,

But this local dealer well its just laziness on the salesmans part , and the thing is , it does'nt seem to matter where you go , its always the same , makes me wonder if its got something to do with the common denominator being there all young ,

Anyway , i'll just wait , if these bikes prove popular which i doubt , big harley, or sports bike culture where i live .

But if they do there will be plenty around in 8-12 months and test rides available , if they are unpoular , Honda will do what they always do have massive price reductions . .

On a side note , how do you compare this to the Thunderbird , i've owned a t bird in the past , and did even contemplate buying the new LT , but to be honest, with it being the same weight, has my rocket tourer , and the same height (lowered mine ) , i could'nt see the point in giving up hard bags , shaft drive , and 800 cc , plus paying more .

What appeals to me about the honda is the same seat height and riding position ,than the rocket , and hoping it handles better in the twisty stuff , THAN THE ROCKET AND THE t BIRD , if you have not rode a rocket , i can tell you they are definetly heavier than the t bird , but handle very similar with the rocket having the edge , becuase of its higher clearance ,but the t bird being lighter tended to give a bit more confidence . I love riding the twisty stuff , and i could always get somewhere approx the same time , whichever bike i rode , t bird or rt3 . basicly i'm after a tourer that has comfortable has the rocket tourer , but handles like my 650 v strom . .

The CTX1300 doesn't have the same instant torque as the Thunderbird. It's no slouch by any means, but it doesn't have the same kind of snap at low RPMs. It does have its own unique kind of pull, though.

Handling is a whole different story. While the CTX is only a few lbs lighter, it feels much more nimble and responsive than the T-bird. And it has significantly more cornering clearance -- I still haven't scraped a peg yet. Not sure how the V-Strom handles, but the CTX is definitely more adept at the twisties than any other cruiser I've owned. Not quite ST territory, but I'm sure you'd find it an improvement over the T-bird or Rocket.

EXCELLENT , This is just the sort of stuff i was hoping for , the hills and twisty stuff is where i like to ride , the v strom handles well i love it , but its mainly because after riding 390kilo monsters , that thing is like a push bike with an engine ,

Can't wait to test one , but they will have to lower them accessorie prices , or cut me a good deal on them ,
Assuming you are from Canada? because I've never heard of such high prices in the USA. I believe the list price on a full boat Goldwing is $28k. I know you will have to buy the bike in your own country but you can just buy the parts on line and self install. I can't imagine those parts being more than $500 total.

thats actually a good question, canadian prices basically seem like inflated american prices. if not.......wow.
From Australia , This is the place where manufacturers perfect the art of price gouging . I actually did manage to get hold of another dealer who was actually willing to drag himself away from the computer and find out the prices for me , but once again i was quoted $1300 for the back rest and luggage rack , with a wait till the end of june before there available ,

Add it on to the $20.000 for the bike and its looking like i have some serious thinking to do . To be honest , with the market for bikes the way it is here i don't think i'm going to bother , there just pricing themselves out ,

For god sake i just bought the wife a new car for $16,000 this year ,5 grand cheaper , and last dcemeber bought myself a new triton ute for $22000 , $700 dearer , but if i buy the screen it works out the same price . .

Think i'll wait for them to start dropping the thousands off that they tend to do , after they cannot sell them .
