Is the CTX1300 is a good buy?

Hi All,

New here. It has been a while since my last bike (CX 500 & Kaw Eliminator 900 back in 2005). I am looking for a comfy (absolutely no forward leaning) 2 up touring bike for me and the wife to do some weekend riding in the mountains and to the beach. I really wanted a newer 2013+ Goldwing but I believe it will be too much for me at this time. Another notable bike I have been looking at are the Victory Cross Country Touring (just as big). I like this one but since they are no longer in business, I will pass.

Which brings me back to the CTX1300. I really like it and feel it will be more then adequate for our needs (smaller and comfy). I have not found any in my region (AL) to look at or ride. SO I need to ask, is this the bike for still for us? I am about 5'9" 205 and wifey is 5'2" and about 165ish. Are there any other bikes I may have overlooked? I am not a fan for the BMWs, Thanks in advance.

I'm about 5' 9"... well, 5' 8.5" now (old age shrinkage you know), and just over 205++. Still have the 32" inseam which is actually more important for seat-to-ground reach and the CTX1300 is plenty low enough to flat foot for me.
I consider this bike to be perfect for what you want. All the power needed for confident touring on any road. Well planted and practically ignores any winds IMO. The bulk of the Gold Wing is missing (I had the GL1500 some years ago) but no loss of performance to equal what you'd have with that bike.

I have the ctx1300 deluxe model and love it. I have the Corbin seat on it and can ride hours without my butt numbing up. I love the seating position, more straight up and down, I'm 59, 250lbs, with a 30" inseam, about 5'10", I ride in the mountains of northern New Hampshire. this 1300 handles all the hills and curves with all the power It has. I picked it late 2021 and put almost 3000 miles on it, got approx 47 mpg, this year I'm doing a complete tune up and see what I get.... I think Honda did a disservice on only making this bike for a year. with a few changes, this could be an even better bike.

good luck, hope this helps.

Is it a good choice? In a word, Yes. I would suggest you read through the introduction section. There are many members who have ridden just about anything on two wheels and they have positive reviews of the CTX.

About wanting the upright riding position. I installed 2" risers to help a little, as I have bursitis in my shoulders and leaning down a little can cause a lot of pain later. The extra 2" helps me lean back enough so I'm pulling on the grips.
Some have used Rox adjustable risers, and I tried them too. But these just have a cleaner look to me.

The seller claims they don't fit. Probably because the original bolts are too long, so I bought new ones and used a washer because the bolt head is a smaller diameter.

I’m 75, 5’8.5”,30” inseam and 195#s. I’ve ridden mine all over Ohio, down to the Tail of theDragon twice, once two up the other solo, then down to Alabama to the motorcycle museum. I’ve had a few bikes including Goldwing and I like the way the CTX rides and handles better and did you get a look at those pipes? Also it is one of the best bargains out there. The bike was not a hit here in the states so resale values dropped so anyone who appreciates this bike will get a great ride for the money. Also do yourself a favor and only go for the deluxe version. The antilock brakes, stability control, self canceling turn signals and audio system is worth the little extra you will pay for it.Now go get you some and ride!
