Got to ride one yesterday. Thought it was a pleasant bike to ride. Very vertical riding position. Noticed redline was 10k, so downshifted into to power curve and holly Molly the bike will scream. Much faster than ours.
But not as comfortable.

The ride is what I like about the CTX.
An adventure bike would be nice for those forest roads and back country places where the CTX wouldn't be appropriate. But that's not my style of riding choice. I guess I've gotten too soft for getting off road.

Yes, that is a screamer when in the powerband. I had the 650 Versys and it had a similar type of power band. I also had an ST1100 in my history which had a high peaking powerband that didn't like being in too high a gear. One major attraction for me to the CTX1300 was the wide and strong powerband without a big "hit." At 75, and many motorcycles, I appreciate the smooth, powerful and controllable powerband! The off-idle transition in the throttle is another story for another time.
