Question for those with the Madstad screen - how's the buffeting? I recently swapped from the stock shorty to the Honda tall screen and I can't stand how much buffeting it has. It's bad enough that I'm thinking I'll just go back to the stock one, but thought maybe the Madstad could be adjusted in a way that it provides a bit of wind protection without as much buffeting.

I'm 6'1" with a 34" inseam for reference.

Can you determine where the buffeting is coming from?
Off the top or off the sides of the screen?
Many here have had good results using the MRA X-Creen wing on top the shield. This provides a laminar flow to bump the air stream higher without getting into the line of sight to the road (IOW, still able to look over the screen).

Personally I never found much buffeting at all on this bike, but I did feel a strong smooth air stream off both the shorty and tall shields.

I'm pretty sure it's the top as I can duck down a bit and it goes away. Like you, I didn't have any buffeting at all with the stock screen, so I was very surprised at how bad it is with the tall screen. I wear earplugs when I ride, so I don't need an absolutely quiet and calm air pocket, but I don't like the way the wind comes off of the tall screen. I might look into the X-Creen, but I think the tall screen is already blocking a bit more wind than I'd like.

Charlie, I have the 2nd shield Madstad made for the CTX1300. Over 80,000 miles on it. Because its adj. up/down and may be tilted forward and back, you can get rid of any disturbance that may bother you. My son, after having 4 different shields on his Gold wing , put a madstad on and is fully satisfied. I have a 15" on mine but would suggest 16"/17" for you., I understand the newer Madstad is better than the earlier models. Give em a call. Nice people to deal with. Good luck.

Sounds good. I had one of the really old style ones that needed an allen wrench to adjust it on the KLR650 I used to have and I really liked it, but I wasn't sure how well one would work on the CTX. Does the CTX require tools to adjust or is it their newer style?

Charlie, my earlier model did not require any tools. Also, mount the alumn. cowl to the frame structure with screws and nylock nuts. Do not use rubber wellnuts. Too much flex in the cowl with the wellnuts.

I have the madstad and I like it a lot.
I used to have a Goldwing with an adjustable windshield (up-down) and buffeting for me was pretty bad, I installed an 'adjustable clip on windshield' that I got from ebay -$13-15; this allowed me to completely get rid of buffeting.
Why don't you try it? it's not expensive.

BTW - even with my madstad I also installed it.

Guess we are all a little different. Never been a fan of helmets in part due to buffeting issues. Recently dug out my full face (Z-Max?) when the temps dropped. Pleasantly surprised at the lack of buffeting with the Honda tall screen. I go 6'1 with 32" inseam. May get out tomorrow and have a different opinion. :350x700px-LL-66dd6d

The Madstad screen has been perfect for me - no buffeting whatsoever. The adjustability allows me to deflect all wind from my upper body when I don't want any or to direct clean air to my faceshield when I do want it, such as clearing away raindrops.
