OkieSTOC - Oct 3-5, 2019

This is one of many events put on by the ST-Owners.com forum members. I've attended this one once before and intend to be there again next month. It is held at Clayton Lake State Park just south of Clayton, OK. LOTS of good riding in the area. There are 2 RTE (Ride To Eat) planned, one on Friday and the other on Saturday. These events welcome riders on any kind of bike or trike. Feel free to come for the entire event (I'll likely arrive Thursday and leave Sunday am), or come for a day, or just meet up at one of the RTE.

I'll likely be taking 2 days to get there and also on the return home. Planning a stopover at the KOA in Springfield, MO on the west side of town going down there. Don't know yet coming home.

This event is coming up next week. I plan to be on the road Wednesday and stopping overnight in the KOA on the east side of Springfield, MO.

Everyone is welcome to stop by and/or camp with us. Or meet at either of the RTE stops as noted in the first post here.

Thanks Bob. I’ll be out of town at that time, so I can’t ride along. You might be riding right past my place SW of St Louis. I’d have ridden along. I take it the ST riders will welcome us step relatives?
I followed a ST along for miles going over Lolo Pass in ID. Felt a bit of kinship there.

Nope. I’m over by St Louis. I thought maybe you were coming in on Highway 44 and heading down to Springfield. If you are coming in on 35 you’ll be on the west side of the state. 200 miles west of me.
Hopefully I’ll make it to one of the gatherings next yr.

I usually avoid Interstate highways if at all possible. Too many kooks to be found there. I have taken the super slab before but only if I am really pressed for time. Never owned a bike that limits me from that... other than my very first Harley (125 cc dual sport). Even my current scoot has nearly the same top speed and possibly faster acceleration, possibly but not certain, as the CTX1300. Thanks for the thought about a possible meet up. Would welcome anything like that along the way. I am rarely in a hurry to get anywhere.

Was a fun half week down at Clayton Lake SP. 686 miles to get there so I split it up and camped the first night in Springfield, MO at a KOA. I would have preferred the price at a national park or ACoE campground since those are a lot less $$$ and I have my National Parks Senior Pass to make that half price, but in Missouri the Federal campgrounds shut down after end of September. On the way back I found that the Kansas Federal campgrounds are open until the end of October so I did stay at an Army Corps of Engineer campground that night. Since that last one was shared with another rider (Russ, ardykay54, from the ST and CTX forums) tagging along with me, and since we could have 2 tents on a site, I ended up paying $5 for the night. Can't beat that!

Clayton Lake SP campground is rocky and where we were didn't have many flat spots for tents, even though they called them tent sites. It all worked out. Bugs weren't too bad. Friday I rode with the group down to the first RTE at Hotchatown and had a good lunch, though it was busy there and we had to wait a long time for it. Then I rode solo over Antlers and back to camp. Put in 173 miles that day. Saturday the group went on ahead to the RTE in Mena, AR and I rode with Russ to meet them there. We rode the Talimena Scenic Drive (Skyline Drive) to Mena for lunch and then we rode back to camp from there for a 184 mile ride. The views are fantastic up on the ridge.

At many ST-Owners forum events there is a banner put up and attendees sign on the back of the banner. This serves as a record of who attended what event since the same banner is used for many events. I did take a photo of that but only about half of those who came signed it.

I ended up with a total of 1747 miles for this trip.

Took a few photos which can be viewed here:
