Greetings Riders:

Taking a big trip in March and was looking for a rear trunk solution that had the added feature of rear brake/tail lights for extra visibility. The Honda spec rear trunk version does not appear to have a lighting option. I've spoken with the folks at Revzilla about a Givi model; however, in 2020, they no longer appear to make the racks specific to the 2014 CTX 1300D. My local Honda dealer says they can order the OEM version (with rack) and have it installed for between $500-600. This is looking like the only option for our make/model at this time. Before I pulled the trigger, I thought I'd put it out there to this collective community for sage advice.

My (black) 1300D came with the backrest option, but for this trip, we'll want more storage than the side bags.

For the record, the "big trip" is one of those Caribbean Cruise ships where they allow a group of motorcycles aboard. How cool to be able to ride the CTX around 7 different islands in the eastern Caribbean, right?

Any ideas on lighted rear trunk options for our make/model in 2020?

Since the previous owner seems to have installed the back rest option you already have the Honda optional luggage rack. If you remove the back rest you should be still able to install a Givi top case using the universal install kits or even perhaps drill the mounting plate to mount using the 4 pre-drilled holes in the Honda luggage rack.

Otherwise I can only think of eBay or Craigs List as options where to find the Givi mounting base/bracket specific to the CTX1300.
Maybe someone else here has other ideas.

MTove, my bike had the backrest when I purchased it. I installed the following GIVI trunk with no problems. There are some pictures of it someplace here on the forum but I wouldn't know where to send ya to see it. I removed the backrest and installed a mounting plate that came with it which allows you to remove the case with the press of a button. One pain is the key DOES NOT match the bike and you can not ride with the trunk unlocked. The trunk will hold one full face/flip up helmet. Two if your using 3/4 helmets.
Trunk/topcase GIVI B47 $242.10
Backrest Pad B37/B47 $47.70
Universal Nylon Rack #S150 (on top of case. It wasn't a problem installing just take your time and measure 3 times before drilling holes) $79.00
I also installed the GIVI light kit for this trunk/topcase but I've lost the receipt with the model # and cost. It wasn't much. It is led and replaces the entire top/side reflector. It is a running light AND a brake light. Givi sends a funky electric contact kit that makes contact when you put the case on the mount. I did not use it. I used a regular four prong trailer wiring plug which I just unplug to remove the case. PS DO NOT tie the lights directly to the bikes wiring harness. Use relays and only use the bike wires to trigger the relay.
Good luck
What is the cruise line that allows you to travel with your bike? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks

I ordered a Givi trunk from Motostorm (Italy). Much cheaper. Had to scoured the Earth for the mount. Luckily I found one. Part # is SR1134. There was one on EBay last week for around $100. Very easy to mount. Comes off with the turn of the key. Love mine. Can't go wrong with Givi. Good luck with your quest.

I moved from the factory trunk to the GIVI V56 last season, mostly due to the V56 being able to swallow two full face helmets.

I used the factory luggage rack, with the factory backrest removed (I had the factory trunk as well as the factory backrest/rack - I like options!) along with the GIVI E-251 Universal Monokey mounting kit ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FYOQB5A/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )

This allowed me to bolt the mounting plate to the factory luggage rack without modifications.

I also bought the AdMore Lighting light kit for the V56, and this was very easy to tap in to the factory rear light harness for running/turn/brake light functions.

This gives me a massive, secure but removable rear storage option, with the added safety of extra lighting.

Hope that helps!!

Great Counsel and Much Appreciated!

Thanks to you all for your suggestions. I'm heartened to know that I can, in fact, get a rear trunk with lighting. I'll pursue the Givi trunk as several mentions give it high marks.

As for the cruise we are taking... I was told about this by an acquaintance and did some research. I booked through a group known as ETA Motorcycle Cruises, who apparently make all the contractual arrangements with the cruise ship lines. My cruise in March is aboard Celebrity Silhouette. It's a 12-day trip with stops at 7 different islands in the eastern Caribbean, all with group rides. My understanding is that there are 20-30 bikes allowed in the group.
will give you a sense of what these trips are like. There are several others on YouTube.

I only became a rider about 20 months ago. The CTX 1300D is my first bike and I am very happy that my research led me in the direction of this model. I'm also very grateful for the collective wisdom available on this site... it has made me a wiser rider and kept me safe.

Thanks again for all your input.

Have to disagree about wiring in extra lights into the bikes wiring harness. I understand Bobs reasonimg about using relays etc., but It is not necessary with the new led lighting systems. If you use the small guage wires that come on any led acc. light, going directly to the bike wiring will present no problems. On the rear of my bike I have added ....4extra runing lights, 4 extra brake lights, and extra directional lights. As well as a brake light pulser. Over 88,000 miles with no malfunctions. Also have added extra front lighting . On the front Denalli led's I used a relay because it came in the kit. IF I was doing this kind of work on an old school bike with old regular bulbs using 14,12 gage wiring I would certainly do everything Bob suggests. Way back on this forum someone burnt out his rear tailight assy ,at great expense, but that was due to his own error probably. Just try in to make it simpler.

Dan:

After further research and speaking with Givi directly, I just ordered a duplicate of your set-up. It should all be here in a few days. Will keep everyone posted on how it goes.

Thanks again... especially for the photos. Very helpful.

Might be late to the conversation but I have used with great satisfaction and much lower cost a product made by SHAD --

They have a variety of top and side cases - all water resistant with universal and adaptable mounting options --

And you can save some $$ from the Givi product --

My New Rear Top Case!

All:

I ordered the Universal mounting plate from Givi, along with the V56 top case, lighting kit and the top wire luggage rack. Had my local Honda dealer install all 4 pieces. Cost was $250.00.

I was initially concerned that the size of the top case would dwarf the overall look of the bike, but I'm very pleased with the new set-up as well as the aesthetics. To me, it blends very well and the added brake lights are a comfort at night. Two full-face helmets fit with no problem. It also will provide significant extra storage space for longer trips. The wire luggage rack that mounts atop the trunk is very sturdy, and it should be easy enough to bungee a duffle bag to it.

Thanks again for all the great input. Photos attached.
