Well crap! Just getting out with my new knee and working up my stamina for riding. Able to do 3 hour rides (with a break) no problem. Went out for a short ride yesterday and got rear ended. My Veronica is dead, long live Veronica!

Wow Barry. Are you okay? Bikes can be replaced easier than another new knee or hip.

I declined to be transported from the accident scene but after getting much uh… feedback from family I’m now in ER getting cat scan and x rays. Overall I’m fine tho

Dang, Barry! Hate to see that. Your stubbornness sounds ... strangely familiar!!!! Hope all’s reasonably well after the soreness of the next couple days wears off. Prayers sent for complete healing for you AND the family. Stay safe, my friend.

update -
Cat scan showed internal bruising from front to back and around my ribs. X-Rays showed my new knee wasn’t damaged and blood work confirmed no internal bleeding. Oh, and I have a good size kidney stone. I’ve got some exterior bruising and some broken skin around my tailbone. A nice imprint of D3O armor from my jacket on my upper back was a weird one I thought. Headache for three days, bit my tongue and definite whiplash feelings around my neck. The bill for hospital facility is about $19750. Won’t know Dr and i assume radiologist charges for several weeks.

The lady who hit me cancelled their auto insurance in March I was told by her company. The adjuster called back later and said a policy did show up that went into effect the day before the accident so she must have a very very good friend who backdated the coverage. If the company (Integon) figures that out they may deny the claim and then it would go thru my company - Progressive. What a pia!

Four days later and I finally feel like I can do something. Stiff and sore to say the least! Now I sit and wait on the adjusters.

Why is it the ones who REALLY need insurance never seem to have it?

About 15 years ago I was crossing a bridge in Richmond VA and a guy came flying up behind me in an 80s Chevy Monte Carlo, I was in a Nissan Frontier. I could not avoid getting rear-ended as there was a car beside me in the left lane, and a moped in front of me. Sure enough he looked up just before hitting his brakes too late and hitting me. He was rushing to a meeting with his parole officer and he gave me his insurance info, which turned out to be expired. My company covered my damage and then they went after him.

hope so. to many idiots drivin, naw, texting and holding a steering wheel with their knees. throw the perp in jail for attempted manslaughter. plus 100,000 for expenses, time n trouble and anything else a attorney can think of. cell phones and drivin are a MAJOR pet peeve of mine. they put so much emphasis on drunk driving, but, its been proven that using a cell phone is even worse.

Barry actually has video of someone coming halfway in his lane on the BRP from a couple years ago. It is somewhere on the forum.

Barry normally rides sweep on the Meetup In the Mountain rides. He has extra lights front and back for extra safety. There is always a risk no matter what you do. We had a couple scary moments last year at the Meetup ncluding a tractor trailer blocking the road in a curve. I still plan to ride but always keep an eye out for idiots.

Just saw this now. Glad you OK. Another reason I keep to the smaller roads, i.e. less traffic.

My guess - insurance will total your motorcycle. Plenty of them for sale tho. Make sure you get a RED one this time. (y)
