Just found this forum through google. The rumors spread through with the leaked spy photos of Honda doing the promo video for the CTX 1300 which sparked my interest and now I am here. It's been a while since I rode but I use to own a big wing that belongs to my son now.

Looking forward to chatting with you guys.

This is my 1st post here and wanted to thank you for setting it up so quickly without even having the bike available yet!

I tend to me more of a fan of cruiser-y standard bikes. I currently ride a Sportster, and I’ve had a Triumph Bonneville and a couple of Viragos prior to that. I recently visited my local Honda dealership to check out the CB1100 but found it a little too tall for me to be comfortable (I live in downtown Boston with a lot of traffic and have 30” inseam). The salesman then told me to wait a minute, brought over the CTX700N with DCT, and told me to take it out for a half hour and let him know what I thought. I have to say, the bike was really, really comfortable, the DCT was fun (in sport mode), and I could definitely see owning the bike. Then I read about the 1300 and thought that might be an even better option with way more power. However, now that I know there’s no DCT available (not a deal killer but it would be nice) and it’s going to start at close to $10,000 more than the 700, I just don’t see it. The other thing I don’t get is that it’s priced so close to the F6B, I feel like you may as well spend a couple extra grand or so more for that. But I guess without riding one, it’s all speculation. Regardless, when the spring comes around, I’ll be back to the dealership and try to ride one and see.

It does seem like so far people on this forum are very familiar with the CTX700 so I wanted to ask for impressions of that bike on longer, 100 mile or so trips. Stability, wind, adequate power, etc. as well as any opinions on the naked vs. faired versions. I like the naked look better but if the fairing does cut down on wind considerably, I was thinking it may be worth it.

Owner of a Honda DN-01, like the idea of an automatic tranny and a Honda Magna, V4 power. The idea of being able to combine the two worlds is very appealing to me. Shied away from the ST 1100/1300 because of their top heaviness. Would seriously consider the CTX 1300 since I love the design of the CTX 700 series. Looking forward to seeing the CTX 1300 on the showroom floor and doing a demo ride.

Welcome to the forum scott seeing your interests in the the types of bikes I think your in the right place.

The CB1100 is a very nice looking bike but i have the same issue as you. With so many stops I'd rather have something more friendlier in height. The CTX700 is amazing for what it is and the DCt is by far one of the outstanding features on it or even call it a luxury. I have no real complaints about except for a little more power and that is where the CTX1300 got my attention.

Yes the best of both worlds is the way to put it. I heard about the ST being top heavy, I mean when any refers to them I always hear top heavy. I noticed we are getting a lot of audience coming from the CTX 700 world.

My son will taking my CTX 700 to him to Michigan so I dont have a choice but to get something new and this is the perfect oppertunity to upgarde right ;)

Yes, I agree that having a lower center of gravity with the same comfort and more power than the 700 (and the extra electronics) is extremely appealing to me so I think before making any kind of decision between the two I will have to wait for the 1300 to be available for a test ride. I do wish is was offered with the DCT though.

I also heard (this may be just a rumors though) that Honda will be upgrading the 700 to a 750 next year. If that's true, the choice may be even harder...

Really... I had no idea that was coming but it is a possibility. Seems like Honda might be doing that to certain bikes in their line. Upgrading them with an extra 50ccs.

That only means you have a lot of waiting to do :(

Hello,

New member here. Strongly considering the new CTX 1300 next spring. I have read so many comments about how it is "fugly". I don't get it. I think the thing is beautiful. Well I don't care too much for the shorty windshield, but that can be easily remedied. Especially like the black color, but the blue is cool too.

Currently am riding a BMW f650 GS. Prior to that I had an 07 FJR and prior to that a Yamaha Vstar 1100. Had to sell the FJR because it hurt my hips too much. The BMW has a narrower seat that my hips could tolerate better. Earlier this year I underwent total hip replacement on both hips. (Ruined my hips with years of skydiving, long distance running, bump skiing and Tae Kwon Do, etc. It was all fun, but not so good for the hips) Now that I can ride again without pain I'm eagerly awaiting the spring to buy a bigger bike. I live in Iowa so our riding season is about over. For years I haven't been able to ride for more than 1/2 hour at a time. Hoping to take some longer trips on a new bike next year.

Right now I would say the CTX 1300 is at the top of my list. Am also considering an F6B. Have not ruled out another FJR, or a BMW 1200 RT, but I put these farther down the list mostly because of the seat height and higher center of gravity. Before I realized how top heavy the FJR was, I dropped it twice. Couldn't manhandle it like I could with a cruiser. I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and I was on my tip toes with the FJR. I like the idea of the 29" seat on the CTX 1300. I'm a little concerned about the position of the pipes and associated heat. I wonder if that will be an issue.

Welcome @Gizmo - have you already contacted your dealer to see when they will be receiving the 1300 and if they are planning a demo day?

I plan on doing some running around tomorrow. I WILL check out the local Honda dealership since they are not open on Mondays. The last time I was in there, a few weeks back, they did NOT know anything about the CTX 1300, let alone IF or WHEN it would be in their showroom. I had to tell them about the CTX 1300, not a real confidence builder for the people who work at this dealership! Then again, while I was there, there was a white CTX 700 on the showroom floor which I hadn't heard were being shipped to the States, with numerous other CTX 700s (red and black). My luck, they'll just get one CTX 1300 and won't let anyone demo it! Eventually, I will get to sit and ride one ... it just might be awhile.

You spotted a white CTX700?! Those are rare :eek: Well not too man on the road from what i have seen at least.

Which Honda do you plan on going to?

I check out Honda Powersports on Atlantic Blvd (Jacksonville, FL) about every other week, it's close by the house. I go primarily just to harass the sales people and pick their brains. On my last visit they did know of a "new" big block that Honda was coming out with, they just didn't realize that it was the Valkyrie, AGAIN! Honda is really hitting the market with big CC bikes. I haven't seen any of the other Metric dealers offering such an assortment. The white CTX 700 only comes with fairing/cowl and manual 6-speed, no DCT. Don't know about the ABS though.

I had a ST1300, and my biggest complaint with it was its top-heaviness, the riding position, and it's over-protected rider area. I mean there was no air behind that wind screen and faring, which made for some pretty miserable riding in hot weather. On the plus side, the motor was fantastic, and it ate up the twisties like a sport bike. But I've always preferred a cruiser, and just never could get comfortable on the ST, especially on a long trip.

I've always said if money were no object, I'd buy a ST1300 and a VTX1800, and hire a fabricator to stuff the business part of the former into the frame of the latter. Honda must have heard me, because they pretty much did just that, only better.

Can't wait to see this scoot in the flesh.

I was also excited to see that they're bringing back the big bad Valk. Not the bike for me, but I'm just thrilled to see Honda doing their own thing again, like in the days of the Magna and the first Valk.

New to the forum. I've been looking for something new and different. Owned many bikes but the Valkyrie has always been my favorite. I thought the F6B would be my next but Honda decided not to have cruise available. The looks and style of the ctx1300 has my attention but once again no cruise and to get ABS we have to go to a blackened out version. Well none the less I love the new look and am awaiting the pricing to come out. As the rock classic goes.. You can't always get what you want ...
